Common Questions:

Flag rugby is a non-contact team game in which each player wears a belt that has two velcro tags attached to it. The mode of play is similar to rugby league with attacking players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball while defenders attempt to prevent them scoring by "tagging" - pulling a velcro attached tag from the ball carrier.
Flag Rugby costs $100 per player. This covers insurance and a free T-shirt for every player.
No special equipment is needed. Athletes are provided with their own t-shirts and are asked to keep and wear them each week. The the flag belts and rugby balls are supplied by the Brock Rugby Club. Soccer cleats would be recommend but are not absolutely necessary.
The sessions will run on Saturdays from 9:00 - 10:30 am at the Brock Rugby Club, except Little Ruggers will end at 10:00 am. There are no practices on the Victoria Day long weekend. The Brock Rugby Club is located just south of Sunderland, Ontario in Blackwater. You can see our map here.
If you can’t make this week’s game, just let your coach know the week before (if possible). We know we all have busy schedules, will be happy to see you next week!
We currently have mini rugby balls for sale at our clubhouse for $30 (while supplies last, price subject to change). The rugby balls are a size 3. They can also be purchased at rugby speciality stores or online. From time-to-time the rugby club may have some extra Flag Rugby T-shirts for sale at the clubhouse at a ridiculously discounted price.
Yes, all players are divided into age groups and then randomly split into co-ed teams. There is absolutely no hitting in flag rugby. We have a strict anti-bullying policy and we strive to provide an inclusive atmosphere for all our athletes.
We can always use more help! No prior rugby knowledge is required. Each age group has a head coach that will assist you in running different stations and we are always open to suggestions. Please see Mr. Kevin Bagshaw for further details. Note: All volunteers are required to submit a Criminal Records Check (vulnerable sector screening). The flag program will cover the cost of the criminal records check.
See Flyer on the Homepage for Current Age Groups.
Please dress for the weather and temperature. The sessions will go rain or shine. The best footwear is soccer cleats, running shoes are fine but cleats would have better traction. Each player will receive a T-Shirt on the first day that can be worn in subsequent weeks.
